Annotations

Simply put, THE most complete and valuable resource available for the re-imagined Battlestar Galactica series and virtually all additional material related to it is the Complete Series Blu-Ray Set.  If you are relying on any other source for your viewing, be it web streaming services or DVDs or recorded broadcasts, you are not getting the full extent of material produced for this series.  Therefore, here are the details you need to know in order to prevent missing out on anything mentioned in the guide:

A) The pilot mini-series NIGHT – 1 & 2 for BSG as well as the films RAZOR and THE PLAN were all released individually on DVD disc and are still available as such. However, all these materials and their extras are now bundled with the Complete Series Blu-Ray Set.

B) “The Resistance” web series originally aired on the Sci-Fi Channel website and then was released as part of the “Extras” for the Season 3 DVD disc set.  However, this web series is now included on the Season 3 discs of the Complete Series Blu-Ray Set.

C) A number of unaired (EXTENDED) cuts of series episodes, films and web-series were eventually released on disc. A few of these cuts are missing from the standard DVD sets of the series. However, all such materials in their (EXTENDED) forms are now bundled with the Complete Series Blu-Ray Set.  Also please note that the final 3 episodes of Battlestar Galactica, titled collectively DAYBREAK, were extended and combined into one feature length film, again specifically for the Complete Series Blu-Ray Set.

D) The “Face of the Enemy” web series originally aired on the Sci-Fi Channel website, but has not been aired since. Furthermore, these webisodes are not bundled with any previously released sets of the series, including Blu-Ray.  Why this is the case remains unclear.  However, simply bear in mind that the audience must, consequently, hunt down these webisodes themselves at the appropriate time in the viewing.

E) The prequel film BATTLESTAR GALACTICA:  BLOOD AND CHROME originally aired on the Sci-Fi Channel website as a web series, and then was broadcast as a whole film on the Sci-Fi Channel television network. This film is not bundled with any previously released sets of the series. However, this film is now available separately on Blu-Ray disc, in its (EXTENDED) form.

F) Finally, all episodes of the prequel series CAPRICA, along with its pilot film of the same name, were ultimately released together as 2 DVD sets labeled “Season 1.0” and “…1.5”. However, there are to date no further supplementary materials, nor Blu-Ray releases in the USA, for this series.

Individual scenes and sequences.  Note that these scenes never originally had titled designations, as produced.  Rather, these titles were created purely for the purposes of annotation in this guide.

(1), (2), (P), (E)…etc. =

Episodes that are closely tied, multi-part narratives, yet not already marked as such in standard episode listings. (P) denotes a thematic “Prologue” to these multi-part narratives, while (E) denotes an “Epilogue” or “Coda” to said narratives.  These designators are depicted here purely for annotation purposes in this guide in order to provide a much clearer picture for the audience of which episodes and materials should be viewed together as organic story-arcs throughout their viewing.

Approximate length of time that has passed in-universe between series events, and delineator for the audience of the most useful opportunities for pauses in viewing.  Where time or multi-part narrative indicators are not present, the viewer may assume that a minimum 1 day to a maximum 2-3 weeks has passed between any two pieces of material, depending on contextual cues.

Material pushed forward/back in the viewing order, in contrast to the original production order, so as to more accurately reflect the chronological order of events (where possible), to enhance the overall dramatic effect of the entire viewing and to render the flow of events in series that much smoother as result.  Please note that THE PLAN should absolutely not be watched any earlier than it is placed, as events of this film reveal major plot points of the series that are not meant to be known beforehand.
